The event runs from the 8 – 11 October, and boasts industry experts and 400+ exhibitors across six sections. These are – Build, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Gardens, Technology and Interiors.
You can meet popular celebrities like ‘design guru’ Kevin McCloud MBE, a designer, writer and TV presenter featured on the Channel 4 series Grand Designs series. You can also come face to face with George Clarke, British architect, writer, lecturer and TV presenter. [Who incidentally ladies, recently announced that he is now ‘Single for the first time since he was about 18’!]
Charlie Luxton will be creating a buzz by hosting a live workshop, where he will talk through your home improvement plans and give advice. Charlie is an architectural designer and television presenter particularly interested in sustainable architecture and the environment, quoted as saying ‘Wherever there’s a niche you’ve got to inhabit it’. For a chance to participate in the workshop, visit the Grand Designs Live website and input the details and any images of your proposed project. The website also has a selection of other forms to fill in when wishing to take part in events and workshops.
Interior designer and Grand Designs ambassador Jo Hamilton, will also be dishing out the advice. In one interview her tips for first time buyers included: –
- Opt for neutral colours which can be accessorised when investing in expensive items like sofas, beds and kitchens.
- Do not impulse buy when decorating, but do some planning and decide on colours, finishes etc.
- Give your kitchen a facelift including new cupboard doors and handles.
- Money spent on a few pieces of art will bring the whole look together, and give even bargain makeovers an exclusive look.
- Consider the lighting in every room, as this is an important feature, will create the mood and can make or break any interior.
There will be 30 volunteers on hand at the show to offer their tips and expertise along with an impressive line up of architects, interior designers and project managers. There will also be the opportunity to get a first look and even try out some of the latest green technology and gadgets in the Green House.
