A Brief Guide to Roofline Products
In a nutshell, roofline products are vitally important in protecting buildings from rain, sleet, snow and wind. Roofline products include fascias, soffits, guttering & downpipes, bargeboards, boxboards and weatherboard cladding.
- Fascias – The fascia looks a bit like a skirting board and runs around the brickwork at the top of the house. Fascias protect the roof space from rain, wind, sleet and snow. Fascias preserve the timber rafters that hold your roof in place.
- Soffits – Soffits are the down-facing boards beside the fascias. They fill the gap between the fascia and the wall. Soffits can be fitted with air vents to provide ventilation to the roof space and loft.
- Bargeboards – Bargeboards form the overhanging eaves that protect the gable end of a roof.
- Boxboards – Boxboards form a weatherproof join between fascias, soffits and bargeboards.
- Guttering and Downpipes remove rainwater from the roof and carry excess water to the drain network.
- Weatherboard Cladding – UPVC cladding is used to protect timber and exposed brickwork from the elements.
Modern PVCu Roofline Products
Traditionally, fascias and soffits were made from timber, but all timber products need to be treated regularly to maintain its protective quality. Wooden soffits and fascias need to be primed, painted or varnished every five to six years to protect the wood. Because fascias and soffits can be difficult to get to, many people neglect this essential aspect of household maintenance.

Eurocell roofline products are made to withstand the harshest British winters and come with a 20 year guarantee against discoloration and damage. Eurocell fascias and soffits are maintenance free and require no painting. Fascias are available in 18mm standard or 16mm ogee styling and are designed to be strong enough to be attached directly onto rafters with no need for a timber substrate.

Soffits and Fascias – A Great Choice of Colours

On of the advantages of traditional timber fascias and soffits was the ability to choose the colour by using a suitable outdoor paint, once the wood had been primed and an undercoat applied. The latest PVCu roofline products come in an excellent choice of colours and finishes, including classic white, grey, black and brown. There is also a choice of natural woodgrain effects including Golden Oak, Irish Oak, Black Ash and Rosewood.
Coordinated Guttering, Downpipes and Bargeboards
Chelmsford Roofline guttering and downpipes are made from high-impact, high gloss PVCu. New and replacement guttering is available in half round, square line and decorative ogee styling.
For a beautiful finish, Chelmsford Roofline offer a colour matching service on all soffits, fascias, guttering and downpipes. Having said that, some of our customers like a contrast between fascias and guttering. One popular option is the installation of cast iron effect guttering, particularly for older and period homes.
