If they haven’t already, your thoughts may be turning to decorating your home, and exploring the new spring 2016 colour palette. There are some beautiful shades on offer for the season ahead, bringing a fresh and exciting perspective to living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens and bathrooms everywhere. Intense and moody colours like black and purple are blended with glamorously gleaming copper and brass surfaces. Warm lilacs and purples, are beautiful and effective when paired with cool blues and and greys, and calm serene shades are matched unpredictably such as pale lilac, lavender or amethyst, deep rich brown and tones of glistening gold. Deep aubergine with a glossy finish is ideal in any room, accompanied by a splash of yellow.

Design projects for 2016 are likely to incorporate soft furnishings in cool and classy colours like milky powder blue with a variety of textures, fluffy cushions and patterned throws. Nature and eco friendly themes will abound with materials such as cork, marble, wood and stone providing echos of the garden. Sofa, cushion and curtain fabrics delight with teasing hints here and there of flora and fauna.

Interior design experts are talking increasingly about the rise of interest in objects which are both decorative and functional. The popularity of items which are simply ornaments and of no other use, is steadily diminishing. This minimalistic concept is set to become a priority, as living spaces decrease in size, and clutter tends to detract from the overall design. In rooms like the kitchen people are more frequently demanding clever and ingenious storage ideas. Anything not immediately needed can be hidden away giving a pleasing, streamlined aesthetic.

As more time is spent in the bathroom relaxing, reading, listening to music and preening, seating will probably emerge as a prominent feature. Lush greenery is seen as healthy and calming, and designers are incorporating plants into their created interiors, adding an environmentally friendly angle.

As a more responsible solution is sought in every corner of our lives, new initiatives are surfacing, such as carpet and flooring recycling. This means that a significant amount of waste carpets and vinyl flooring are saved from their landfill destiny and converted into useful products and resources.
Carpet and flooring specialists Harley Carpets in Brentwood, Essex, have invested in a Kenburn Carpet Crusher, allowing them to offer customers a totally green flooring process. Read more about this here.
